Nature is one of my greatest interests. Throughout design work it has always heavily influenced me as well in a general manner. This project is inspired by natural history and science. I wanted to explore how research has taken place, the equipment used, how specimens are preserved and then arranged. It took an illustrative approach quickly which led me to concentrate on ways of creating patterns from my visual research. |

Mood Boards These are a selection of examples of mood boards from my project. Exploring; primary research, market research, contextual research, designs, colour, materials etc. |
Primary Research Primary research was key for this project. I did a vast amount whilst visiting: Grant Museum of Zoology, London, Castle Museum, Norwich, Natural History Museum, London and Science and Natural History museum in Lisbon (and more!). I have also taken behind the scene tours to learn more about preservation and different species! Building up a vast selection of imagery was key for my visual research to create interesting drawings for pattern work and motifs. |

Visual Research Samples of my visual research. I did a range of focused illustrative drawings for this project of which could then be translated into patterns. I also experimented with some more textural pieces as well as digital sketches. |
Patterns For this project I did a vast range of pattern work, primarily in half drop repeat. These were then digitally printed and embroidered into. |
